    1. Hi Broad,
It was the old (ending with) M registration which I think was about 1973/4. My first car was an M reg mini. I'll bet that has long since bitten the dust!

    1. For someone, but not us.

We saw the car in the hospital car park and it looked like it was in regular use

  3. Phew, this needs some very loving care! I could never take to the Beetle as the engine note made the bones in my neck vibrate in a most unpleasant way. Just thought I'd share that with you.

    1. I can never ever remember riding in one, through any of the incarnations.

  5. Nice Beetle...
    reminds me of mine...
    blue with brown patches...
brown patches that sort of grew...

    But not an M-Reg...
the rear lights are too small...
the bonnet is too narrow at the point...
and the indicators should be on top of the wings...
I would say at least H or J...
and that goes for the metal too...
much thicker steel was used up to H/J...
    but...
cars used to be bought by the dealers...
but not registered until they were sold...
    which would explain the M-Reg!!
Or it could have been imported into the UK from another rhd country in 73/74... it would have been given a plate from that year... Q plates only came in with the second series [letter in front of the number] plates...

The rear lights should be bigger and more rectangular...
and the side trim looks early too...
especially the Robri-alike on the rear wing.
    It is too big...
by 73 it was a little

    I liked my little Beetle...
    solid, reliable, reasonably economic...
    but...but...but...
horribly cold at the front in winter!!
Had to keep filling hot water bottles in pub loos on one journey!!

    2. "by 73 it was a little" should go on to read...
"chrome wrap at the bottom front of the rear wing"

    3. Thanks for the info, Tim.

A Beetle and a 2CV, which would you prefer?
