Supertramp day...

The back terrace taken through the sitting room window.

'It's Raining Again' but at least we haven't had the kind of weather causing chaos, destruction and distress in other parts of the country since before Christmas. No sooner do they see some improvement than another storm or band of rain arrives to add to the misery. The Government seem to be taking the line of 'Crisis, What Crisis'! If only there was a Supertramp track called. 'Too Little, Too Late'!!!

In our little bit of Staffordshire we've escaped the worst of the weather, and in the midst of the greyness we've had some fantastic sunny winter days. We try to make the most of these by going for long walks on Cannock Chase, or around the fields and canal which surround our house. However, wellies are the order of the day!

How much longer can this last?

On the retirement front it seems to be 'all systems go'. My colleagues have been informed as my job is being advertised, with interviews planned for March. My friend Barbara tells me that today is exactly half way through the school year. Today I did the investigations on the reflection of light for the last time ever, and after tomorrow making electromagnets will be a thing of the past. My citizenship lessons based on the 'Boy with Striped Pyjamas' are coming to an end. As usual, there will probably be tears.

It's all downhill from here...

  1. Gaynor, Come on ... cheer up! You don't half realize how lucky you are. But I understand how you feel... every thing you'll be doing for the last time from now on, will be part of the memories and causing strong emotions, which will bring tears to your eyes. My advice? Enjoy every moments and cherish those you'll love best. Martine x

    1. Thanks, Martine.

The tears I referred to are due to the sad ending of the film. If you haven't read the book or watched the film then you must do so. I guarantee that you will be in tears.

  2. Yes, I've seen the film, but it's a while ago. It's overwhelming and totally mind-blowing. I couldn't watch it again without a box a Kleenex by my side.

  3. It seems to be raining everywhere. Our garden is like a swamp and the fosse is overfull. We have been waiting to sort the problem out since November but all is to wet. We are really in the ***! Bonne soirée

  4. I think you can take it as read that there will be more tears before 18th July... and I'm not talking about the end of the film. I'd get stocked up on tissues now, if I was you!!

    1. I suspect it will hit me more I the final few weeks. Weare planning on heading straight out to France and a retirement bash, French style, for early September. Put it in your diary...

  5. There were no tears when I left, just a huge sense of relief - for me at least and probably my colleagues too - "thank goodness she's gone"....!!
I think I put it off and stayed far too long. I was a grumpy old thing by the end so they were probably glad to be rid of me!
Much better to leave on a high when you're still enjoying the job and your colleagues still appreciate you. Not long now !!

    1. Jean, I'm sure you have been missed, especially by your regular patients (do you call them that?)
I'm also certain that colleagues miss you too. Us oldies generally say it like it is and are less intimidated by management ago are prepared to give an opinion or lend support where others are afraid to.

    2. You're right, I think we get to the point where we've seen it all and have the experience to judge whether a strategy is likely to be successful or not. And we're not afraid to say so!

  6. I had just written a 'witty' response full of Supertramp tracks and my computer froze and I lost it all....and I haven't the energy to recreate it all again!
I just want to say - I know you'll really enjoy every day left at work and you'll adjust without a problem as soon as you have to! Axxx

  7. I guess every day will be a 'last' something or other, although some will be more significant than others. We've just organised out first term-time holiday for skiing next February. Hopefully we'll get more reliable snow and miss the queues!! X

  8. This time next year you will be thoroughly enjoying retirement and wondering how you ever had time for work. :)
