The angry and sorrowful voice...

...of common sense.

My heart goes out to the grieving families and friends of the Santa Barbara students murdered by a fellow student.

Mr Richard Martinez bravely faced the cameras and made a distraught plea about the availability of guns, following the death of his son, Chris, and other innocent students. His might not be an opinion you agree with, but I was disgusted by some of the comments made in response to the video of his speech on YouTube.

Needless destruction. Lives forever changed.

There's rosemary, that's for remembrance...

  1. Guns make everything worse. We've had deranged individuals wreaking havoc and taking their "revenge" on the human race in the UK but with knives and axes. It's so much easier to kill more people with a gun, from the comfort of a BMW.

The horrible comments left in response to this poor man's anguish reflect how many nasty people there are out there. Unfortunately the internet gives them the chance to state their opinions in front of a huge audience and their anonymity allows them to be more vicious and completely free to do so than if they were saying the same stuff in the local bar or any other public place, where there are usually enough rational people around to shut them up, but via this forum they can go as far as they like.
It probably illustrates the worst aspect of the internet - the ability to be nasty, spread evil and get away with it.

    1. Well said! You've articulated exactly what I was thinking.

  2. I only vaguely heard something about this on Spanish radio - obviously my listening skills still need improvement - but I absolutely agree with you and with Jean as you condemn the responses to one of the victim's father. I also despair at the gun culture that exists which makes the deranged actions of individuals so much more devastating. Having said that, this young man also stabbed three people...he was very determined to damage and kill. So very sad.

  3. Hello Gaynor,

This event was so terribly distressing but, sadly, is no longer becoming isolated. There seem to be increasingly numbers of violent, senseless murders in the world today and one wonders quite why this should be. Whatever, guns are the problem not the solution in our view.
