If I need to do some market shopping I often find myself in Loches, on a Wednesday. Sometimes Tim comes with me, but mostly I go without him- which is the way I prefer it to be. I like to wander around, seemingly aimlessly, although the trained eye will realise that this is a sham. I know exactly where I'm going and what I'm looking for, but like to check out the rest before I buy. Tim just doesn't get shopping. Rhiannon and I despair of him, especially when we plan a girlie day out and he suggests that he might come too. Having our own personal, credit card carrying porter does occasionally come in handy! Anyway, I digress.
Last week WE went to Loches. We usually park near the cinema and walk in past the Palais de Justice. As we did we spotted a little Italian restaurant called Amoremio which we hadn't come across before. It later transpired that it opened last September.
We usually have coffee and sometimes a snack lunch at Le Presbytère near to the Eglise St Ours (one of my favourite places) but as we arrived the heavens opened and the prospect of sitting in the lovely garden lost its appeal. We decided to finish our shopping and give Amoremio a try.
It turned out to be a treat. We chose the 12€90 menu du jour which we really enjoyed. It was typical lunch time fare, but tasty and very nicely presented and served. We liked the decor and we heard the jazz artist Zaz for the first time. All in all a very pleasant lunch.
If you haven’t come across the music of Zaz before you can check her out here.
I always really liked the set French lunches. Yours looks really nice. Will give Zaz a listen later.
ReplyDeleteWe like her music and have downloaded a couple of her albums. It will be interesting to know what you think.
DeleteI have very fond memories of lunch at Le Presbytère. Great views, simple yet fresh and delicious food. But Amoremio looks like an excellent alternative ... Great to read that you are still enjoying France after your Japanese adventure :)!! Martine
ReplyDeleteI love the view and agree with your comments. An oasis of calm above the action of the market. Yes, and we are enjoying France. Very different from Japan but still lovely.
DeleteLooks like a great find Gaynor. Does ANY man get shopping ? Best to do it without them , I agree. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think both Tim and Tom are alike in their dislike of shopping, so perhaps it is a male thing!
DeleteI think it is a male thing Gaynor. Even my grandsons say OH no not shopping ..:-)
DeleteI hate to go shopping with my husband ... When in France it's really difficult to get free of him because I rely on him to get into town -- I cannot drive a manual transmission, you see. Anyway, no sooner do we get into town and he is itching to get back home again!
ReplyDeletePoor you !n ;0)
DeleteI like to browse and sometimes come back from a shopping trip without buying anything bar essentials, but will have enjoyed looking at what else is on offer. You can also guarantee that if Tim is trolley pushing it won't be where I need it to be. Still having a chauffeur is a useful thing - but only if they are prepared to wait in the car... ;0)
Not a big fan of shopping ( I know thats odd for a girl) but I love the set lunches and they can be a nice surprise. You get to try things you don't normally have. Hope its not me going mad, but where did the Pampas post go? I went to comment and it was gone :) x
ReplyDeletePampas is back again but the link doesn't work. I know not why!
DeleteOne of my friends in the UK doesn't like shopping but when she goes shopping she decides quickly and gets home a sap.
I know a few females that don't like shopping !!! I like going to the shops even if I don't have to buy anything.
DeleteSounds like a perfect place for a girls lunch....after a morning of market therapy!
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me... :o)
DeleteGaynor I have no problems with shopping with Nigel in a supermarket, we seem to work that one well. A market is a different thing, I like to wander and just look and Nigel cannot shuffle around he has to walk out, not because of the man thing, but because of the problem with his feet.
ReplyDeleteLove the menu du jour at French restaurants and especially if it is a Les Routiers. Looks like you had a good day out. Diane
Loches...I do envy you being within shopping distance of this lovely place. I remember it well from many years ago - long before there were Italian restaurants opening up there! You don't say what you bought....Perhaps you didn't buy this time. Another solo trip will do it! Axxx
