Bargain hunt?

Ever been to NOZ?

NOZ is basically a tat shop selling end of lines. The closest one to Le Pre Vert is near to the SuperU in Loches, although I have seen one in Tours. I think they must buy up the surplus stock left behind after the sales. Some of this has come from the UK as I've seen Debenhams labels on some items.

A lot of what they sell is tat, but I always pop in because in amongst the tat you can usually find a 'must have' at a bargain price.

Last time it was this 'pop-up' traffic cone which cost around 3

However my best ever buy was a pair of croc-a-likes.
At 2a pair, these diamond encrusted beauties were a real bargain. They are soooo comfortable that I bought them in three colours!

I suppose that as we have this wonderful new space-saver cone, it’s an ideal time to dump the one that Tim illegally acquired during his days at Loughborough University.

On our next visit to Le Pre Vert I'll pop into NOZ and take some pics of the 'never be seen dead with' variety...

  1. Hello Gaynor:
Surprisingly we have never been in NOZ. Indeed, until this moment we were unaware of its existence but are certain from what you say that it must be a wonderful treasure trove in which to search out a bargain. And diamonds are, after all, deeply buried.

    1. Hi Jane and Lance,

NOZ is a 'once seen, never forgotten' type of place, although a couple of visits a year are quite enough!

  2. I have also never heard of NOZ. Sounds like a good place to browse around though if we ever come across it :-) Have a good Sunday. Diane

    1. I'm sure I've read somewhere that NOZ is a countrywide operation, so you never know, there could be one lurking in a town near you ... ;o)

    1. Hi Janice,

Perhaps I should have bought up a job lot and made a killing!

  4. Never heard of NOZ but it was lovely to conjour up memories of Loches! I think I would like NOZ very much and am away to see if Spain has heard of it - and if not, then can't wait for my visit to France next Easter!

    1. Are you visiting anywhere near us? If so we'd be happy to offer you and your tribe a place to stay.

    2. That is so kind, but it will be just north of Paris. However, if my ex ever gets his act together and buys my share of our house in Lurais...I'll let you know and would love to take you up on the offer. (Don't hold your breath though, it's already been 17 years!) Axxx

    1. Hi Pauline,

I'm intrigued, why can't Tim (your Tim) visit with his brother? Tim (my Tim) doesn't do shops!

  7. One has to be in a certain mood to enter its door to look for a useful bargain and prepared to either laugh out loud or hold up one's hands in horror at the 'usefultosomeoneornoone'TATT! But as you say on a lucky day there are some interesting and useful items. There is one near PontHenryIV Chatellerault.

  8. And all because of you we went to NOZ. Result: I'm the proud owner of a lovely pair of [now much used over the summer] white multi-coloured polka-dotted crock-a-likes! Although Niall point blank refuses to be seen with me in them away from the house:-)!
Our best buy: some extremely nice & dirt cheap rectangular window boxes. But oh the tat! It does make me giggle!

    1. My kids aren't keen on being seen with me wearing my splendid jewelled croc-a-likes either!

Looking back we have had a few really good deals and we know others have too.

It's all about being in the right place at the right time.

We must compare our croc-a-like bargains!

  9. I need to tell my friends B and J.L. who have recently bought a holiday home near Montrichard about NOZ. I'm sure they need some stuff to furnish the house. Thanks for the tip. Btw, that traffic cone looks very handy indeed! Great buy! :) Martine

    1. Hi Martine,

I'm sure that your friends could find something useful but they may need to sift through a lot of chaff in order to find the wheat!

  10. I loved going to Noz...and to Mille Stocks...and to all the other tat merchants!

Linen trousers, silk jackets, wool/silk mix suits....silk party dresses as presents for little girls and none of it over 20 Euros!

It was like having your very own jumble sale....

      Welcome!

I've never heard of Mille Stocks, but you can be sure I'll be looking out for a branch. I'll ask my 'know-it-all' friend, Google ...
