Women wot walk ...

Yesterday was my 56th birthday and apart from having to work it was a lovely day.

Today is my ‘day off’ work and I’ll be meeting some friends to go for a long walk and lunch on Cannock Chase.

Sue H, Judy, Sue G, Chris, Barbara and Sue M (Jane was busy!)
Susan certainly was a popular name in the mid 1950's!

The canal near Ingestre.
Apparently the Lord of the Manor didn't like canals so had this stretch widened so that it looked more like a lake. Barb is a canal expert!

We are a group of

Women wot walk,
Teachers wot talk and
Ladies wot lunch!

Take your pick!

You may notice that my friends look very relaxed. Could it be that they are all fully retired ...

  1. Happy belated birthday, Gaynor and many, many happy returns of (yester)day. Unfortunately early retirement is no longer an option here, so it can take another 10 years (65) before I will look as relaxed as your friends. How about you? Five or also nearly ten more to go? :( Martine

    1. Thanks, Martine.

Teachers can retire and take their occupational pension at 60. The amount of this depends on the number of years service. If you work for 40 years - impossible to do if you take retirement at 60, you are entitled to half salary. A teacher can take early retirement from 55 although pension is then reduced by about 5% for every year early.

The state pension, for people of my age, is now 66/67.

I will work for a maximum of 4 years but msot probably for another 1 or 2. I have stepped back from my responsibilities and now work only 3.5 days.

      Bon courage...

The day looks to be dry and bright and great for a walk. My big decision is whether to try out my new walking boots...

  5. Love the rhyme -- I love to walk and to talk -- but to 'out to lunch' -- that is my favourite!

And a Happy Belated Birthday to you.
