120 pounds lighter...

A miracle diet?

No. More like daylight robbery!

Less than 20 minutes in the dentist’s chair! As I was paying and being encouraged to make the next appointment the receptionist informed me that Dan had recommended that next time I might need an x-ray, costing £45. Whilst sitting in the waiting room I heard her say exactly the same thing to every other patient!

If only he wasn't such a good dentist...

What’s happened to the NHS?  Nye Bevan would turn his grave.

This got me thinking about what else I could do for the equivalent of £120. Any ideas?

  1. How do you know he's a good dentist (or at least that there isn't an equally good one just round the corner)?

    1. You're probably right, although I would still maintain that he's a good dentist with state of the art equipment - I know, paaid for by people like me! It has been difficult to get a NHS dentist although I believe there are more now.

We've been with the same practice for 30 years. Dan is one of the newer partners. About eight years ago the practice went from NHS to private.
Luckily our teeth are fairly strong so we only have the check and sometimes see the hygienist.
Yesterday he did a spot filling of a chipped cusp which took about 2 minutes besides the check.

  2. You are lucky you were warned! Our dentist in the UK just decided when he wanted an X-ray and you were just handed the bill!!

Here if Nigel and I go for a check up at the same time, the dentist only charges for one, which ever has most done if there is any work to be done! Diane

  3. Can you get private dental insurance? It might prove worthwhile if you can. I pay a fair bit each month for what we call "Extended Health Care" and it covers almost all of my dental fees (50% for crowns) plus I don't have to pay for any of my drugs, and other such things.

    1. It is available and covers checks, some work and other work at reduced cost. We might look into this again.

  6. MY NHS dentist "went private" a few years ago too.... I stayed with them as a) I liked the practice and thought the dentists were good and b) tit bwas a time when it was hard to find NHS dentists taking on new patients..... anyway... they offered " Denplan", one of the insurance schemes.... it has always ( so far) been a bargain.... about £18 a month...covers all check ups, hygienist, remedial work ( including a % of crown work) and all fillings. I feel it has been good value.... a few emergency visits over the years.... all included. J.

  8. I confess that dentists are something I stay away from ...I know I shouldn't and that one day it will catch up with me. I've only been three times in about 20 years....awful, isn't it? I know I'm going to have to go soon as I have a tooth that suddenly feels not quite right..but I'm pretty sure I've saved more that £120 in those 20 years. (Thanks Dad, your teeth genes have stood me in good stead!)
