January 1st.
In our bit of the UK the sky was grey and gloomy, temperatures were mild and there was light drizzle. Hardly the day with which to welcome a new year.
January 2nd
Today, the weather is cooler, sunny and bright. We've taken our Christmas lights and decorations down, and all that remains to be done is the big, post festivities clean up!
However, the clean up will have to wait until tomorrow. This afternoon we are walking and eating with a group of friends, but before that I need to make a date and apricot, croissant and butter pudding, which will be our contribution to the meal.
The croissants...
Dates and apricots soaking in Cointreau and Amaretto...
The pudding will also contain cream and white chocolate, but with a nod towards healthy eating will be served with low fat creme fraiche!
Watch this space...
The finished pudding...
Well that looks jolly good! We're already on the post-excess cut down and I have nothing in for lunch at all and three hungry kids hoping for a continuation of the feasting....Happy New Year to you and yours Gaynor! Axxx
ReplyDeleteBonne Année, Annie. Hope you had a lovely Christmas.
DeleteNo hungry kids but quite possibly a hungry husband!
As A "baker" I am impressed with your croissants... the rest sound delicious even with the low fat creme fraiche. C
ReplyDeleteI didn't bake the croissants, but I did choose them myself! ;o)
DeleteMmmm...sounds and looks wonderful, but I'm now back onto my dairy free regime, after faltering a little over Christmas ! Happy New Year Gaynor & Tim. xxxx
ReplyDeleteI'll be there with you on Monday, Janice. Not dairy free, but certainly lower fat and carbohydrates. At the moment my ski trousers are a tad tight and they need to fit by January 31st. At my age I'm not buying new ones!!!:o(( xx
ReplyDeleteIf I ever ask my dad what the doctor said, he will always reply "don't buy any new shirts" !!!
DeleteI suspect we mostly have enough clothes to 'see us out' but that doesn't stop us from buying more!!
DeleteHappy New Year to you. That looks delicious but I need to fit into my ski trousers too 😁 Where are you skiing? x
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteWe are skiing in Villars, Switzerland. We've been there a few times so know what to expect.
Where are you skiing?
That's spooky as we were thinking of going to Switzerland for our summer holiday. Never been skiing there though x
DeleteForgot to say we might ski in the Pyrenees as we've not been there before x
DeleteThat pudding just looks wicked! Cointreau and amaretto. Would it work with brioche, do you think? Happy new year from Pauline and Tim.
ReplyDeleteCertainly. I have eaten a delicious brioche pudding but not made one myself. It helps if the 'bread' is on the stale side. My croissants were very fresh so I heated them in the oven at 100C for half an hour to dry them out! Another of our favourites is with hot cross buns but any 'bread' would do, panettone etc.
DeleteHappy New Year Gaynor! I think you should be able to adjust the size of the photos using your iPad. I was able to when I used it last summer. I assume you have the corresponding App.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me. When I looked I couldn't find it but will look again.
DeleteIt's the wrong time of year to be on a diet!
ReplyDeleteThe pudding looks fabulous!
Happy new year !!!
Certainly is.... :o(
