J Day +1. Visiting a Japanese school...

Today we were invited into one of Tom's schools to have lunch with some pupils and teachers. The aim was that we could meet some of Tom's colleagues but also speak to the children so that they could practise their English.

We were made very welcome and it was a pleasure to work with such lovely, open children. We noticed vast differences between how things are done in the UK and Japan. This will be the subject of a future blog, but In terms technology for teaching purposes British classrooms are far ahead of rural Japan, something we take for granted in the UK. The children serve and eat lunch in their classrooms and clear away after. They then have 35 minutes leisure time after which they CLEAN THE SCHOOL without supervision!

A brilliant day. Photographs to follow...

  1. Wow! I wonder what our health and safety would make of children doing the cleaning and what our children and their parents would have to say, if asked to do it!!
What a fascinating experience for you to see the way education is over in Japan. Cultural differences don't come much greater, I guess!

    1. Kids are tasked with different jobs. They even clean the staff room although it is mostly with mops, rags, brushes, water and elbow grease.

  3. Will do when we can get the wifi gadget to work as photographs take an age to upload. Next week we are in some hotels with better broadband than Tom has. His broadband is awful and we mostly have to access tethered to his mobile phone.

The school experience was very different, but wonderful.
