Château de Ré

The Château de Ré, as the crow flies, is about a half a mile from Le Pré Vert, but we can't get the definitive as to whether it is possible to walk there. There is a path ,but the walking maps are not very clear as to whether it is a public footpath, and it is blocked in places.

The château is private and dates back to the second half of the 15th century, with changes made in the 17th century. You can't see much of the building from the road surrounding the chateau, but what you can see is lovely!

There is also beautiful mill house which is ripe for renovation, but as far as I am aware, is not 'à vendre' ......

  1. Some of these buildings are beautiful and it seems sad we cannot see them properly, but I would be the first one to say I needed my privacy if I had the money to own one of these places!! Diane

  2. Hello Gaynor:
How tantalising, just a glimpse but no entry, we should love to explore further. Years ago when we were not only younger but also more daring and flexible, we would often seek out empty houses and climb over fences and gates to get a closer look!!!! It sounds all too shaming to admit this now.

  3. Diane,
I agree that privacy is important, but I am happy with a glimpse

  5. It's a beauty Gaynor. But can you imagine the upkeep on a house like that? Never mind the heating bills! I'm just jealous!

  7. They are now raising veal there and it can be ordered in freezer-pack quantities. The owner was at the Limouzin Freres farmers market event... the meat looked good!

As for heating a pile like that.... I'd recommend geo-thermie.... they've got the land.
