As is usual, with even very small French towns and villages, the church was magnificent. I love the carved detail around the small side door. The church of Notre-Dame was temple of Minerva.
By the time we arrived the church was locked, so we weren't able to look inside. We will make a return visit, especially as the Intermarche and the Brico are just up the road!

I agree with you about that door -- exquisite! The churches around us are all very old and interesting, but not very well kept up -- until the past couple of years. Our village has a 12th Century church which is now undergoing major repairs. Such a shame it has been left for so long, but at least it's is being done now!

ReplyDeleteWhat I liked was that this was one of a few side doors, and on most village churches in the UK wouldn't be special or significant in any way.
You're right ... restoration is better late than never!
