Window art .....

On our way home from an afternoon out - at the Brico - we stopped off in Preuilly-sur-Claise to take a photograph of these shutters….

and how about a catch like this to go with them….?

  1. The copper birds are fun. Did you see the monkey on the downpipe? They are the work of the owner of the house between the wars, a Prof at Tours Art College. The catches you can still buy in any Brico.

  2. Hello Gaynor:
Thay are great fun but it is the catch, and the colour of the shutters, which particularly appeal to us.

  3. Hi Susan,
    Nope ... missed the monkey!
I'm almost disappionted that the catches aren't rare antiques :o)
Thanks for the background information, I'm amazed that the birds are old. Presumably copper because it is malleable and doesn't rust ....

  4. Hi Lance and Jane,
Susan says that the catches are still available. Next time we visit the brico (but not too soon, I hope) I shall look out for them!

  5. Those shutters make me smile everytime we go through Preuilly. The catches are one of the little features we love about our house: all our fold-out shutters have them :-)

  6. Not another one!

I had no idea that the catches were so widespread - notice I hesitate to use the word common. I love them too!!

I am so disappointed that I haven't discovered the next big (or little) thing in street architecture ;o(

    One day .....

  7. Love those shutters, I have to admit to not seeing those catches before so they are new to me. I like the idea of the monkey on the drainpipe haha. Diane

  8. Diane,
Next time I go to Preuilly I'll stop and take a photograph of the monkey - if I can spot him!

  9. If it makes you feel any better Gaynor, I never saw those catches in our many Brico visits when we lived in France. The shutters are great fun.

  10. We have those little-people-shutter-fasteners, too !! Alex fitted them to our new/old window a couple of years ago - so they're def still available. I think he got ours from CMA who used to have a depot in the village, but not any more - the nearest is in Ligueil.

  11. Hi Jean,

I hope you had a good journey back to the UK. It was great to catch up again (in person, rather than virtually)on Saturday.

So are we the only people in France with boring black swivel catches?

Still there is always the brocante at La Celle Guenand on Sunday.... you never know what I'll find there.

    Watch this space!
